On June 23, in order to cope with floods in southern, Red Cross Society of China (RCSC) launched an emergency appeal to the nation, calling on all walks of life to act vigorously, enthusiastically donated funds and goods for the floods affected areas.
According to the appeal, the disaster areas urgently need tents, quilts, instant food, drinking water, medicine, environment and drinking water disinfectants, disinfectant and other materials.
In response to the flooding disaster, the RCSC has decided to provided relief funds and goods worth a total of 10.3822 million yuan, to provinces of Jiangxi, Hunan, Fujian, Guangxi, Guizhou, Guangdong, and Hubei.
More than 29 million residents in the areas of Zhejiang, Fujian, Jiangxi, Hubei, Hunan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Chongqing, Sichuan and Guizhou have been affected by the inclement weather.
The downpours have triggered flash floods, inundated crops, disrupted traffic and telecommunications and forced the evacuation of 2.376 million people, the Office of State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters said on Tuesday.
A total of 195,000 houses have been destroyed and more than 1.6 million hectares of farmland damaged, pushing the direct economic losses to at least 42 billion yuan ($ 6.2 billion).
The worst hit were the provinces of Fujian, Jiangxi, Hunan, Guangdong, Sichuan, Guizhou and Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region.
Up to June 22, six affected provinces(Hunan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Jiangxi, Hubei and Fujian)have been allocated yuan of relief materials at valued of 4.3822 million, including 950 single tents, 21,500 quilts, 2,000 coats, 4,000 jackets, 2,800 family packages, 3000 blankets, 7,000 mosquito nets, 3000 environmental disinfectant box, 1000 cases of drinking water disinfectant in the affected areas for rescue work.
On June 23, the RCSC decided to allocate another 6 million yuan of relief funds to the worst-hit provinces such as Jiangxi, Hunan, Fujian, Guangxi, Guizhou.
