In the afternoon of the 12th February, the staff member from Suzhou Branch with well collected 120 milliliter hemotopietic stem cells went to the Shanghai Ruijin Hospital. WANG Xuegang, a man of Suzhou at the age of 22 years, donated his hematopoietic stem cells for saving a 44 years old patient with leukaemia. Then, he became so far the youngest volunteer of bone marrow donation in Suzhou.
The young man, WANG Xuegang was born in Zhengzhou City of Henan Province in 1987. He came to Suzhou to work in 2005. Now, he is working at And a Electron Systems Engineering Corporation Limited of Suzhou Industrial District as a staff in charge of Technical Department.
In September 2005, Mr. WANG Xuegang donated his blood during his business trip in Zhoukoudian of Henan Province. When he learnt that bone marrow donation may save life of leukaemia patient, he immediately registered as a glorious bone marrow donation volunteer at China Bone Marrow Databank. Ordinarily, he is enthusiastic in the commonweal. He had his non-remunerated blood donation and platelet donation many times converting to 9400 milliliters blood donated in total. In October 2008, Suzhou Red Cross gave him a call telling him that one leukaemia patient matched with his type of bone marrow. It was so surprising and exciting to him. He felt that he could have an opportunity, which is difficult to get, to save a life by donating his bone marrow. During the sample blood collecting and physical check up, he has to take his own time on this as he has a lot of responsibilities at his company. He is really coming in and out hurriedly.
During his waiting for the type matching result, Mr. WANG Xuegang contacted Red Cross many times for the findings and he hoped he could early give his donation to save the patient’s life. His kind alms deed got fully support from his leaders, which released him from work and living afterwards.
As planned by the Red Cross, Mr. WANG Xuegang was hospitalized at Loufeng Hospital affiliated to the First Hospital of Suzhou University on 7th February 2009 using 5 days for mobilizing his hematopoietic stem cells . In the morning of 12th February, 120 milliliter blood with hematopoietic stem cells was taken from him and making him the 27th successful bone marrow donor of the Red Cross volunteers.
According to Suzhou Red Cross, the work of hematopoietic stem cells donation has been carried out by the Red Cross for 6 years. During this time, more than 12000 citizens aged at middle or young were enrolled as volunteer donor, of which 11000 data were put into the China Bone Marrow Databank.
