The 2010 Chinese Red Cross Work Conference was convened in Shenzhen from January 12th to 13th. Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the NPC and President of RCSC, Mr. Hua Jianmin pointed out in his speech to the conference that addressing the situation and tasks we face, we shall identify 2010 as the Year of Capacity Building to build up our capacities. We have build up our capacity to respond to public emergencies, to carry out First Aid trainings with a special focus on hi-risk industries and schools, and enhance Red Cross staff’s ability to learn and research.
RCSC Executive Vice President Wang Wei made deployment for the implementation of the new 5-year Strategic Plan and priorities for the year 2010. Wang emphasized that the implementation of the resolution and plans laid out by the 9th National Convention must focus on set priorities and it must been done forcibly – in particular work in five areas embodied in the ten major tasks including restructuring of prefecture- and county-level branches, fundraising, First Aid training, voluntary service and youth work, establishment of spokesman system.
As for RCSC priorities for 2010, Wang broke down the ten major tasks and exemplified their implementation and corresponding indicators. These tasks include strengthening capacity building, improving emergency response system, carrying out theory research, setting up standards for National Red Cross Model Units, piloting human organ donation programs, continuing Wenchuan Earthquake rehabilitation programs, participating in Shanghai World Expo, strengthening exchange and cooperation with the Movement and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan regions.
